If you didn’t know me, you’d probably think that I’m trying to become some sort of influencer on social media. I do post quite frequently on Instagram. Well, I’m not, and I don’t really aspire towards it–not that there’s anything wrong with being an influencer. There was a Christmas break during graduate school when I actually considered starting a YouTube channel. I even planned a script and bought the gears: a used microphone and a camera. But I think I was just bored. Anyways, who would I interview? My imaginary friends? The reality is, I’m too self conscious of a person to watch and edit videos of myself. I also don’t personally feel that filming videos is a skill that I’m interested in developing.

It’s interesting that there’s a group of intellectuals who don’t consider film, even at the highest level, as fine arts. The premise is that to be considered the fine arts, the artist must have complete control over the medium and material. Historically, the fine arts include architecture, poetry, music, painting, and sculpture. For film, which is more of a modern creation, there’s apparently too much dependence on luck and the elements for it to be considered under the complete visionary control of the artist. What an interesting take. Content creation, I believe, is not art, let alone fine arts.
