If you’d have told me at the age of 22 that, at 36, I’d be living in a dorm-style situation, I would not have believed you. But here I am, living in a dorm style situation at the age of 36 as I prepare to start my postdoc, which hopefully will last a bit longer than the single year contract that I’ve signed on for. This means I could potentially be in this situation for another 2 to 4 years! They say that a career in medicine is akin to a marriage. Well, I’m clearly still reeling from the divorce.

But on the bright side, it’s always sunny in Los Angeles, and I am already feeling very optimistic about being at the University of Southern California. My first impression of their medical campus is that they have a lot of resources. It honestly kind of reminds me of the WashU med campus. But one thing is that it is rather hot in Los Angeles–even in September–and incredibly sunny. I’ve already stocked up on sunscreen. I image there will be some sweaty walks to and from work in these conditions. At least I won’t dressed up in full tie and white coat.
