I’ve been neglecting to post for a while. It’s partly because I’ve been absorbed in my postdoc for the past few weeks. There’s been a lot to get done in terms of obtaining funding and such. Los Angeles is an exhilarating location to be at. There’s endless stimulation if you go out of your way to seek it. There’s something here for everyone, if you care enough to look for it. Like tonight, for instance, I will be attending an exhibition at the Southern California Institute of Architecture. There will be an exhibition for the Pritzker Prize winning architect Shigeru Ban where he will be displaying some of his humanitarian focused architecture that entails makeshift paper housing as temporary shelter for the Los Angeles wildfire victims.

After that on Saturday, I’m attending a portfolio info session held on Zoom to see if transitioning to an architecture student is a feasible option in the coming two or three years. I think it really depends on the finances and how much debt I’m willing to take on because, at this point, I know my parents are not going to want to support me in this endeavor, which is totally understandable. They’ve done enough. But it is rather exhilarating, the thought that I could one day actually achieve my ultimate vision of running my own architectural firm is something that I very much look forward to. It instills excitement and purpose in my life in a way that other options promoted by society does not.

Last night, in fact, I was able to finish my architecture portfolio to Sci Arc before my subscription to the Adobe Creative Suite software expired. I think my portfolio is a bit short on content and some of the content being a bit old, but there’s probably enough I imagine to gain admissions to the university: the decision to accept or not ultimately just depends on how much scholarship they offer.
