I imagine that being in a stable romantic relationship has its benefits. I personally am not in one at the moment. However, I think where the danger comes in is when we think that a relationship may solve our existing problems. It’s tempting to think that. The middle age is historically an uncertain and anxiety provoking time for most people and I think it’s tempting for many to believe that engaging in a romantic relationship will solve a lot of our problems. This is a false and dangerous ideation and I think the opposite may be true in some cases.

It is interesting because middle age is a period of time when people often should be engaging in relationships and thinking about settling down. For heterosexual couples at least, this is a prime time to pair up children is the end goal. It makes the most biological and genetic sense for women to have children at a reasonably younger age. In fact, studies have shown that even advanced paternal age may contribute to genetic mutations in the resulting child as well. Yet, I think where there could potentially be an issue is engaging in the deceptive conception that starting a family or entering into a relationship would solve all of one’s problems.
