I don’t just mean romantic love in this post which is the most common form of love that we think of when we use the word. I think love is a multifaceted ideal that can permeate to every aspect of our lives including our hobbies, our day-to-day work and interactions with others. What I’ll discuss in this post is regarding career. I used to think love is not important, and I think I thought that way largely because my parents have conditioned me to believe that. It’s not really their fault in thinking this way as they are both first generation immigrants to the United States who needed to worry about money. I was the more financially secure generation. But it’s interesting that even despite having the resources that I did growing up that I didn’t end up choosing the path that I felt I was best suited for when deciding what to study in school. Now, it seems I’m paying the price.

What I want to say is that love is important. And again by love, I mean it in the broadest of sense. Not just referring to romantic love. It’s important that what we do as human beings are dictated by genuine interest and not the swaying of those around us. I think it’s too often the case that we are influenced by the herd mentality that many of us find ourselves a part of. Thus, it’s critical to find time to perhaps spend time as individuals to discover what it is that we truly like and care about.
