In religious parlance, there is this concept of being “clean”. I think some members of the medical establishment have taken this too literally to mean that the body should strive to be aseptic, which is both not possible and not healthy. To be clear, being clean means having a mind free from impure thoughts such as lasciviousness, greed, murderous tendencies…you get the idea.
To expand on this, being clean doesn’t refer to a life of abstinence, unless perhaps you are the religious delegate. It just means your actions should be driven by pure thoughts. The actions themselves are not as important as the intentions behind them. Thus, being “clean” is really a state of mind, and not a corporeal thing. Are you clean?
