America is a country of immigrants. It’s founded on the principle of upward mobility, which means that anyone, regardless of their status, should have the opportunity to achieve success through hard work and ostensibly a little talent. If this were true, this means that people in positions of power in this country could be descendants of individuals from relatively lowly positions in their respective origin countries–because why would royalty work that hard? The American dream is what makes this country so great, yet paradoxically not so great at the same time. Are we truly picking the right people for the important jobs?
