A friend of mine once told me that it’s really difficult to change the world. Yet, people still do. This person always struct me as someone who is smart but not necessarily ambitious and maybe a bit lazy. He’s probably alright with a mediocre life that most people end up with.

Changing the world has its appeal in the West. It is among the culture here to try and “make it” in a big way. We live in a capitalistic society and so things like starting a business and maintaining it is looked upon favorably by the rest of society if it doesn’t strike others with a sense of envy. Business and commerce are important parts of the societal structure here in the United States.

However, it is still very difficult to change the world. That fact remains permanent and true and so if one does want to change the world, it requires a certain level of tenacity, suffering, and grit. All these things are not really endurable by the average person.
