I once worked with this doctor that I won’t name with whom I had a negative experience with. She went to a fancy ivy league institution for university and a state school for medical school. She ran a private practice that I guess catered more towards the pediatric population so, giving her the benefit of the doubt, she was probably just better at working with children.

But my experience with this particular physician was absolutely horrid. She wouldn’t listen to my pleads and failed to address my concerns. She applied her rigid medical framework of what mental illness is upon my state and prescribed me the dosages that the book recommended, which was clearly too much. It was just not a great experience because some of the side effects of the medications were essentially the same as the symptom of the illness I was being treated for, resulting in this positive feedback loop associated with the prescriptions.

Additionally, her office, along with her demeanor, just possessed an air of superiority and snobbery that was evident in the furniture, her way of dress and her flippant attitude toward me. I’m not really sure where I’m going with this. I’ve read that many academic psychiatrists are sponsored generously by the pharmaceutical industry from where they get their medications from. I can definitely see that that was the case. I not a believer in the field of western psychiatry, to be honest.
