About a few months ago, I purchased a makeup stick. Growing up, I had moderate acne on my face that has since healed but scarred a little bit. My parents didn’t really sustain a healthy diet in our household and we just weren’t from a healthcare family really. My dad believed men should have a few scars and, to be honest, I don’t disagree with him.

Yet, ever since soft committing to the arts, I’ve felt the need to play with some light make up, starting with foundation on my face. The arts sort of feel like a fantasy to me. Architecture, in particular, is a sort of sustainment of a dream from what I see in the magazines and websites. I’ve only applied the makeup stick about once or twice on my face just to play around with it. I’m still not in a position or career at the moment where I really should be caring about my appearance to that extent.

Nevertheless, makeup is something that traditionally is not meant for the stereotypical masculine men, though societal norm is slowly shifting. More men are starting to embrace an image of what was once considered to be feminine. Gender roles are changing, and I think that could come with its pros and cons. At the end of the day though, the purchase of a makeup stick is just a form of play that I want to test out.
