I finally found someone who’s sort of around my level in tennis and is willing to play with me on a regular basis. It’s great because he’s also presumably gay and someone who I don’t think I would necessarily date. We are literally neck and neck when we play. The match today could’ve easily gone either way.
He’s also from a relatively wealthy area of California, which I’m not particularly picky about but I think it is sort of important that people be from similar socioeconomic statuses for there to be successful friendship formation. It’s certainly not a requirement, but it’s a nice thing to possess because socioeconomic status begets certain habits and traditions that people just don’t understand if they’re not from it.
Finding a regular tennis partner has been compared to dating, and I can definitely see that. You sort of have to soft reject people you don’t necessarily want to play with because they’re not really at your level. Tennis is one of those sports where it sort of requires that everyone be on a relatively similar skill level for there to be a good time. It’s something that not everyone necessarily understands.
But overall, I had a great day today, and I’m so grateful for the gift of tennis, even though I’m not necessarily that passionate about it.
