The Institute of Neuroimaging at USC has an interesting set up in terms of schedule. They are actually not strict at all and don’t even require that you meet with your supervisor(s) very frequently. This obviously has its pros and cons the primary benefit being that it lends itself to being creative through the freedom that’s bestowed by the freeform schedule.

However, the major downside to all this is that I feel I have reservations in regard to my motivation: it’s just really easy to slack off and take breaks with no one keeping you accountable. I’m not certain how other members in the lab operate, to be honest. Additionally, my colleagues seem to consist primarily of foreign nationals predominantly from China. I don’t know how these people are getting used to the state of everything. It seems sort of counterintuitive actually to have foreigners enjoy such a nice facility such as that of the Stevens Institute of Neuroimaging.

I don’t know where I’m going with this post. I’d just gotten off work and needed to do something productive but light to unwind. At the end of the day, work is chugging along just fine.
