Someone once asked me why I wanted to be a doctor, to which I replied, “Because I want to help people by imparting knowledge.” Given that the question was asked during my medical school interviews, it is somewhat ironic and perhaps laughably fitting how everything turned out. Yet, now that I am a PhD and have crossed a sort of metaphorical finish line, I find myself with a bit of time on my hands before my postdoctoral position starts. Thus, I figured I would begin a new way to be creative by starting a website blog.
The truth is, I’ve always wanted to keep a journal, but have never really been the type to write out my thoughts privately in a consistent manner. It always ends up feeling pointless without the tingling excitement that someone may read my words and be impacted by them in some way. Social media and the internet, for that matter, are a double-edged sword in the sense that, on one hand, they have the power to broadcast our thoughts and musings to the entire world, but, on the other, put our fragile psyches at the mercy of other people’s criticism.
If anything, the purpose of this blog is to give me a way to consistently practice my writing, a skill I value immensely. For the few who will end up reading its contents, I hope I can engage in some profound intellectual discussions on a wide range of topics. I apologize in advance for any typos or grammatical errors I may miss or be unaware of. I hope you may get to know who I am as a person a little bit better.
