I started thinking about the concept of evil in this world during one of my low mood states. In television and in the movies, we see evil as this sort of fantasized version of everyday human beings, but that’s not how evil manifests in real life. I think it’s a bit more complicated and nuanced in reality. The only true version of evil I’ve seen in the real world is on television in the Law and Crimes television genre where the criminal shows no remorse in breaking a serious law. That is sort of what society pegs as evil. Yet, to me a lot of times that is more stupidity or ignorance masquerading as evil. So then what is true evil?

I think evil has to do with deception. It has an underlying base of intelligence because evil people are deceptive and duplicity requires a certain level of intellect. Yet, I think most men and women who chose the evil way do not get away with their actions. They simply lack the skill set to do so. Most people think themselves smarter than they really are. There exists a term for that. Yet there is evil in this world and things that temp ordinary people toward doing evil deeds. I don’t know if that’s what religion is for. Some people turn to religion to perhaps turn away from evil, and it may be the smart thing to do because some of these folks may have children, which requires that the environment be safe and nurturing.

I don’t know what caused me to think about the concept of evil all of a sudden. I was having a very stressful day at work and the idea turned up in my head. We live in a world where evil does exist, and I think there exists a metaphorical fight between good and evil in every individual as well as within society at large.
