This is my 275th blog post, I believe, and I’ve discovered that writing is difficult. It’s interesting because writing is very much like talking to oneself. When you write, you are literally jotting down a voice in your head, and you’re training that voice to be more authoritative, more mature, and to sound just a little better with every letter, every word, and every paragraph you put down. At the end of the day, I’ve found that writing is not easy. It takes effort, sort of like working out consistently. Lifting weights every day, even when it’s difficult, takes tremendous discipline.

They say that writing is a form of thinking, that it’s really about using your brain logically and putting your thoughts down coherently. I’ve noted previously that writing is different from reading: I’m a good writer, but not necessarily the best reader. I’ve always wondered why. I’ve never been much of an avid reader; sure, I’ve gone through phases in my life when I’ve read many books and enjoyed them through and through, but reading doesn’t come naturally to me. And I think my bipolar disorder makes it a bit more challenging to read; I’m not sure if it’s the focus or what–I don’t know the exact mechanism.
