Density

The readings in architecture school are no joke. The material reminds me of those GRE verbal passages I have long dreaded. Some people are naturally good at the GRE verbal section. I am not one of those people, though, having nevertheless always been interested in understanding dense text. I think reaching that level of understanding means grinding through history classes and getting a real handle on what everything means. It takes practice and receiving feedback. The latter is important and often underrated.

It, again, all comes down to strategy. I’ve never been one to be good with languages—any language—having chosen a more mathematical path early on in my education. I think one strategy I will try out is to do these readings early in the morning when I have the most focus. By mid-day or after a meal, I would’ve lost a lot of my energy and ability to concentrate. I don’t think that will be the case at five, six, or seven o’clock in the morning: I think I will be better off working in those early morning hours.
