I write about myself a lot in this blog. It’s not really intentional: I just don’t really have a lot of other things to write about, and I feel bad writing about other people in a negative light and risk the chance of that other person reading it and recognize that I’m writing about them. Yet human beings are so interesting. Everyone I’ve come into contact within my life has their strengths and flaws that it’s a shame to not capture their essence through words and learn from them.

I think that’s where fiction can come into play. I don’t normally read fiction in my free time. Like I’ve mentioned, I’m not a great reader. My short-term memory and/or reading comprehension skills is not strong enough to the point where I can enjoy most novels; plus, my bipolar has made it almost impossible to read without losing focus–or at least I’m pretty sure it’s the bipolar or the medication. Thank God I can still write.

But maybe one day I will try my hand at writing fiction. I took a fiction writing course my senior year at WashU to fulfill a writing requirement and I enjoyed it immensely. I was clearly not the most talented writer in the course because I remember there were a few student who wrote beautifully, but I was a biomedical engineering major, so I wasn’t exactly practicing the craft. I think I will try my hand at a few short stories in this blog just change things up a bit: an idea for a new category.
