In the so-called “real world,” I’ve noticed that GPA and field of study truly do not matter all that much. Everyone is good at some things and not so good at others. Who’s measuring anyway? It’s what you do with your skills to help your organization that matters in the long run. You do you. However, at the end of the day, there are still people who are inherently “smarter” or “better” than others, and I think what differentiates these intelligent and capable individuals from those that are deemed “lesser” is the ability to 1) understand what they truly want in life and 2) figure out just how to obtain it. Okay, okay, it wasn’t me who came up with this sentiment; I heard this saying from a podcast coming from what I think is the manosphere. However, I think there is some inherent truth to it all.
First is the ability to have insight into who you are as an individual. Do you know if your desires are truly yours and not those of your parents or society, for instance? Do you have the awareness and maturity to understand the difference? Individuals who don’t, I imagine, can end up in life situations that can become absolutely miserable, to say the least. The ability to have insight into who you are as an individual is a critical part of being an aware citizen in society with idiosyncratic goals, dreams, and aspirations. It’s important to understand your situation at its fundamental core.
The second aspect of this statement is the ability to figure out how to get what you want. When you know the why’s, the how’s become just as relevant and important. I think this component is the more practical one of the two options. An individual really needs to develop their fundamental skills to obtain what they want in life. In other words, having a growth mindset is a good thing. At the end of the day, everyone wants different things and will likely come up with different methods of obtaining them; however, the ultimate sign of success is perhaps the ability to get what you want in life. You can do it!
