Architecture school has been a little different than the summer program. In the summer program, there were a few students who didn’t take it seriously. I get the sense that most of the students in architecture school will take it seriously: it’s expensive and there’s disciplinary action if you don’t. It’s great a few of the mature students from the summer program migrated over into this school year—at least I’m not starting off making friends from scratch.

Studio culture has been an interesting change. In the scientific sphere, studio is the equivalent of lab where you gain practical skills associated with art and design. It is basically lab except you’re doing art instead. For me, this is especially beneficial because, as proven by science, art has a therapeutic effect on mental health and can promote wellness for bipolar disorder if dosed properly. That’s basically one of the top three reasons why I entered architecture school: at least that’s what I tell myself.
